reached across underserved regions in Ghana
Across many communities in Ghana, schools operate without libraries, age-appropriate books, or consistent reading support. For thousands of children, this limits early literacy development and weakens the foundation needed for long-term learning.
Without access to books and guided reading environments, children fall behind early and the gap widens over time.

Libraries Without Walls (LWW) is FEED’s flagship literacy initiative, launched in 2017 to take learning resources to communities and into the lives of Ghanaian children. From open fields to community centres and schools, the programme creates safe, engaging environments where children can read, discover, and learn. Its mission is simple: take learning beyond the classroom and into open spaces, tree canopies, and wherever children live, so that no child is denied the joy of literacy because there is no library around.

The programme delivers:
Mobile and community-based libraries

Age-appropriate books and learning materials

In-school reading and literacy sessions

Support for teachers and facilitators
Creative expression, digital learning, AI & STEM programs
Libraries Without Walls operates through eight interconnected initiatives, each designed to reach children and communities in a different but complementary way. Hover any card to learn more.

MOLIC Hubs
Mobile Literacy and Creativity Hubs
The beating heart of our grassroots literacy movement. Set up in open spaces, under trees, or in community centres, MOLIC Hubs bring books, creativity resources, and digital tools directly into underserved communities, creating safe environments where children can read freely and receive foundational literacy support.

LitBag
A carry-along reading kit filled with age-appropriate, culturally relevant books and literacy supplies. LitBag ensures children in rural areas can take books home, read with family, and build a reading culture beyond structured lessons. A solar-powered version is in development for off-grid communities.

MindSpark
Mobilizing Innovation and New Digital Skills for Participation, Agency, Representation and Knowledge
Our STEM and robotics arm. Through hands-on workshops, robotics kits, and coding sessions, children connect literacy with problem-solving, bridging the gap for rural learners left out of STEM opportunities.

Each1Teach10
Every literate child becomes a literacy ambassador. Each1Teach10 empowers children, youth, and community volunteers to share what they know with others, building a self-sustaining network of literacy champions whose impact multiplies far beyond our direct reach.

Community Literacy Caravan
Our mobile outreach vehicle takes reading, storytelling, and learning on the road, transforming entire communities into literacy festivals. A special feature is elder-led storytelling in local languages, preserving indigenous knowledge while deepening intergenerational learning.

READSPRINT
Reading Empowers Aspiration, Dreams and Skills Promoting Resilience, Imagination, Nurturing and Thinking
An 8-week accelerated literacy programme helping children struggling with reading catch up through intensive, play-based sessions that build confidence, phonemic awareness, and comprehension.

KASAT
Knowledge and Skills Advancement for Teachers. “KASA” means “to speak” in Twi.
When teachers thrive, students succeed. KASAT empowers educators through training in inclusive literacy and STEM, amplifying teacher voices through workshops, peer learning, and practical classroom strategies.
WOMI AI
Weapons of Mass Instruction. “WOMI” means “books” in Dangme, a local language in Ghana.
FEED’s bold step into AI-powered literacy innovation. A hybrid offline and online platform with Ghanaian-language materials, an AI reading assistant for personalised feedback, and teacher support tools for lesson planning and inclusive pedagogy, designed to work even in low-connectivity zones.

Libraries Without Walls reaches 3,000+ children annually across 40+ communities, building literacy skills, confidence, and a lasting love of learning.
School attendance and engagement improves consistently where we work. Participation in sessions boosts performance and self-belief in learners who previously had no access to books or structured reading support.
200+ teachers have been trained through our KASAT initiative, strengthening literacy instruction in classrooms across underrepresented communities.
The programme has been honoured with the Elevate Prize GET LOUD Award (2025) and the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize (2024), recognising its innovation and global impact.

Libraries Without Walls is built to be community-led, not donor-dependent.
The programme integrates with existing school and community structures. Books stay, and community guides are trained to carry sessions forward independently.
We cultivate literacy as a community norm, not a project. This long-term thinking is reflected in outcomes that show retention across all those affected in education.
